Basic Bingo Vocabulary: A Language All its Own |
Bingo aficionados seem to speak a language all their own. For the novice Bingo player, these terms can be confusing when they are first heard.
However, take heart! With a little know-how and practice, you too can speak the lovely language of Bingo. Never again do you need to be in the dark when someone begins talking in Bingo's own unique language.
So, listen up and get ready for your first Bingo vocabulary lesson.
The first term all Bingo players should know is Admission Packet. Admission packet refers to the number of cards a player must purchase in order to enter a game. Many Bingo halls use this method of payment rather than using a cover charge.
Players can generally purchase more games than the minimum. Usually, the minimum is between three and six games. So, if you know you want to stay for awhile, you may want to prepurchase more than the minimum to save time.
Next, a Bingo player needs to know the term Blackout. Also known as Coverall, this version of Bingo changes the rules. Rather than being required to cover spaces vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, players must completely cover their cards. Obviously, this type of game takes awhile, so settle in!
If you hear the term Booklet when you enter a Bingo hall, you can be certain you will be receiving a packet with a predetermined number of Bingo sheets. When you look at the sheets, you will find an equivalent number of cards on each sheet. Basically, you will play all of the cards on the sheet at the same time. As you complete a card, you may separate it from the remainder of the book.
In some halls, a Consolation Prize is offered. In this situation, the hall has predetermined a number of calls that will be made in the game. If someone does not win within those numbers of class, a consolation prize is awarded.
The term Face refers to one Bingo sheet. Generally speaking, this sheet will have a free space in the middle surrounded by twenty-four numbers. However, do not be alarmed if your sheet is in a different format. Again, each Bingo locale has its own rules.
These terms are some of the basics you may hear as you begin playing Bingo. Hopefully, you are now prepared to walk into a Bingo hall and start winning!
