This Sunday, the 25th of January, is a big day in Scottish Culture Burns Night. The anniversary of the birth of Scotlands legendary national poet Rabbie Burns, its a day when the mans life and poetry are remembered and celebrated. You may not have heard of Rabbie Burns, although chances are that you have, but you will certainly be aware of his work. Thats because youll hear it at least once a year, as he is the man who wrote Auld Lang Syne. Truly, New Years Eve would not be the same without him.
This year is even more special, as 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Burns birth, so there is set to be a record number of sick days taken in workplaces all over Scotland as people deal with the mother of all hangovers. And to mark the occasion, Crown Bingo are giving you the chance to win a wonderful weekend break in Scotland if you win the full house in Sunday evenoings 8pm game in Room 2 on the Crown website. Full House in the 4pm game wins a meal at Crown Bingos expense a meal of your choice, we hasten to add, as we can happily reveal that the stereotyping will stop short of amusing haggis japes.
Throughout the day there wil be other Scottish-themed spot prizes on offer. NO word from Crown on what these will entail, but given the contributions Scotland has made to the world, some will be keeping their fingers crossed for whisky, shortbread or even a few volumes of poetry from the man himself. Its safe to say that pretty low down the list will be a set of bagpipes. But its the weekend break that should have you interested. Scotland is home to some of the most wonderful scenery the natural world has to offer, and if youve never been there for a stay then you really should give it a try.
With Crown having seemingly decided to give the days prizes a shroud of secrecy, it may be for the best if you just head on over on the day to see what you can win. It should be a lot of fun.
