By Sarah Smithon Wednesday, 27 Feb 2008 A 19-year-old from Wombwell has won the National Bingo Game's platinum jackpot play-off this week.
Lucky Lisa Mitchell bagged an amazing £238,000, but is generously opting to give two thirds of it away to her boyfriend's mother and sister.
She told the National Bingo: "I just ran out screaming when I realised how much I had won and rang everyone I could think of. They were all gob-smacked after they realised I was not kidding."
Lisa started playing bingo at the Gala Club in Barnsley a year ago - as soon as she was legally old enough to play.
Since then, she says that she has played regularly, at least once per week.
Gala assistant manager of the Pontefract Road Club, Mandy Rylance, described the atmosphere in the club when Lisa won.
"My eardrums feel like they are perforated from all the screaming and cheering that went on. To win almost a quarter of a million pounds must feel marvellous," Mandy said.
A number of celebs kick-started their careers in bingo halls calling out the bingo numbers.
Simon from boy-band Blue, Eastenders' Shane Richie and Gladiator Russell Crowe all began their showbiz lives as bingo callers.
