By Sarah Smithon Thursday, 13 Dec 2007 After nearly 40 years of playing a grandmother from Brandon has won big on the bingo.
The 83-year-old lady bagged £40,000 a grand for every year she has dedicated to the game at the appropriately named Winners Club on London Road in Brandon this week.
She has been playing at the club since 1968, when it was still a cinema which played bingo in between the screenings.
The lucky lady, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the National Bingo: "I play every Monday evening, 48 weeks out of 52 a year and have seen all the changes in bingo."
She added: "The most I have ever won before is £200 so winning this much is a big shock. I tried to carry on playing after the win but I was all fuzzy and didn't know what I was doing."
With her winnings the dedicated bingo regular said she will be giving her one son, two daughters and six grandchildren "a little extra" for Christmas, after which she will get the family together and have a party.
The woman is married to her 84-year-old husband who occasionally plays bingo with her but generally prefers watching sport on TV.
