By Sarah Smithon Wednesday, 20 Sep 2006 Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has instructed his lawyers to take "appropriate action" regarding the allegations of corruption that surfaced in a BBC Panorama programme.
The programme showed agents claiming to have made illegal payments, or bungs, to Allardyce – who was linked to the England manager job – and his son, Craig, in order to facilitate player transfers.
"Obviously, I'm denying all allegations that have been alleged against me," he said. "The matter's in the lawyers' hands and will be resolved by due process."
Meanwhile the Football Association's chief executive, Brian Barwick, has announced that the FA will conduct a formal investigation into the "serious allegations" made in the programme.
"It is vital for the integrity of the game and for every football supporter that we do this," he said.
However, the League Managers' Association is defending Allardyce, saying that there was "a complete lack of evidence" to the allegations.
