Amnesiac proposes 'several times a day'

By Sarah Smithon Tuesday, 3 Oct 2006

Vanessa and Simon Thornton are just like any other happy couple, enjoying new family life with a one-year-old baby to care for.

Except that a tragic skydiving accident left the 35-year-old with no memory, post-traumatic amnesia blocking out any recollection of his life, Closer magazine reports.

Despite having made more than 100 jumps, Simon landed badly, breaking his leg and hitting his head on the ground.

Vanessa told the magazine that when he came round in hospital, "he didn't remember the two years that we had been together".

But the love between them remained and Simon asked Vanessa to be his wife from his hospital bed. Overjoyed, she accepted - quite a few times, as the amnesia meant that he popped the question "several times a day".

Having married in 2002, the couple welcomed a son, Jonathon, a year ago. Happily, Vanessa told Closer that the arrival of the little one has helped her husband's memory, adding "he's finally getting better".
