By Simon Jones on Tuesday, 7 Oct 2008 New analysis of the online gambling industry suggests that it is in a healthy position in the current global economic crisis.
Whereas some forms of gambling may struggle in this financial climate, web-based betting firms are unlikely to follow suit, according to Global Betting & Gaming Consultants (GBGC) chief executive Warwick Bartlett.
The game of bingo was one of the games he made reference to in a positive light.
"People are leaving their cars in the garage, playing online bingo or watching a match on TV and placing a bet from the comfort of an armchair," the GBGC representative claimed.
Mr Bartlett added that land-based businesses may struggle to compete "with the value on the internet".
The GBGC has worked with or supplied information to over 300 clients, a high percentage of which are blue-chip organisations. The group also claims to be the most credible specialist international gambling consultancy across the globe.
