By Sarah Smithon Thursday, 21 Jun 2007 The recent bad weather that has blighted much of the UK in recent days has widely been reported as a bad thing, but for one woman it was anything but.
The 29-year-old has been playing bingo with her sister and a friend at their local bingo hall in Southend for around ten years.
Usually, the gang of girls like to play electronic bingo games and, as yet, have not had much luck on the machines.
However, the unnamed woman's local Mecca Club was severely affected by torrential rain last week, so much so that part of the roof caved in overnight.
Quick-thinking staff called contractors in to mend the damage as soon as they noticed it the day, and the roof was made safe ahead of the evening's play.
Unfortunately the electronic bingo machines were put out of action by the damaged roof and the ladies were forced to play regular bingo.
Initial disappointment for the mother-of-three soon evaporated in sheer unbridled joy however, as she scooped a massive £100,000 bingo jackpot.
"I couldn't believe it when I realised how much I had won," she revealed. "And I just went to pieces. If it hadn't have been for the bad weather I never would have won!
"I can't stop smiling but won't believe it entirely until I have the cheque in my hands."
The unnamed woman says that she plans to take her kids to Disneyland and will be sharing some of the cash with her sister and their pal.
