The BBC wants to show footage of the near-fatal crash involving Top Gear's Richard Hammond.
Hammond himself will decide if the broadcaster can air footage of the crash, which happened when the presenter was driving a jet-powered car at close to 300 miles per hour.
According to the Daily Mirror, the BBC wants Hammond to give a voiceover to the accident in a one-off documentary special. However, footage of the aftermath of the crash will not be shown because it would be too distressing for viewers.
Hammond was attempting to break the British land speed record for an episode of Top Gear when his car veered of a track at York's Elvington airfield. He suffered serious brain injuries but is now said to be making good progress.
Co-presenter Jeremy Clarkson has resumed filming on the Top Gear series, but the show will not be screened until Hammond's condition is better known.
