By Sarah Smithon Friday, 15 Aug 2008 David Beckham will appear in Beijing during the Olympics closing ceremony as part of the official handover from the 2008 Games to London 2012, it has been reported.
A source told the People newspaper that the LA Galaxy footballer, who was born in Leytonstone, will "be in the surprise finale".
"They always have a segment to do the handover, to showcase the next city to host the Olympics," the insider explained.
Beckham has been suggested as a possible candidate for lighting the Olympic flame when the Games heads to London in four years time, alongside the likes of double gold medalists Dame Kelly Holmes and Daley Thompson, according to the Guardian.
All three have been recipients of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
During the Beijing Games this summer, a number popular online bingo sites have been running special Olympic-themed promotions, including Bet365 Casino, Devilfish Poker and Think Bingo.
