By Becky Turner on Monday, 5 Nov 2007 A Norwich woman diagnosed with cancer for the third time may be seeing her luck change after a £100,000 win at bingo.
50 year-old mother-of-three Julie Bowes-Shorten only took up bingo earlier this year, after recovering from cancer for the second time. But shortly afterwards, she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which she is still battling.
However, last week Julie won the jackpot at Aylsham Roads Mecca Bingo club, with a full house in 40 numbers the lowest call for the card nationwide.
"I feel like luck's turned around for us as I can't earn money because I gave up my job four or five years ago and can't claim benefits so this has come as a big windfall for us," she told the Norwich Evening News.
And Julie plans on giving most of her winnings away to her three grown-up children and four grandchildren.
"We're going to give them some money to cover the whole of their Christmas so they don't have to scrimp and scrape," she said.
