By Sarah Smithon Wednesday, 28 Nov 2007 The Scottish finalist in the National Bingo Caller of the Year 2007 competition has said that despite being disappointed at his defeat, he has not given up hope on winning the title.
James Cook, who works at the Fountainpark Mecca Bingo club, told The Scotsman: "Maybe I can even go a step further next year, we'll just have to see.
"It was a good experience going down there and it was a really good day."
According to the paper, the 31-year-old brought "bus loads" of supporters to cheer him on at the finals in London last weekend.
Facing a panel of judges and a live audience Mr Cook was grilled on the rules of the game before giving a three minute presentation on why people should get involved in bingo.
Despite his best efforts, in the end he lost out to the north-east regional finalist Blake Robson, who works at the Mecca Bingo Club on Dean Road in South Shields.
However, to mark how far the Scottish brave heart got he will automatically qualify for next year's Scottish final where he can have another shot at being crowned the king of calling.
