By Penny Walker on Wednesday, 5 Jul 2006 A burglar thought he'd hit the jackpot when he stole more than £1,300 from a bingo hall in Wales. But daft 20-year-old Mark Bolter didn't reckon with the CCTV camera that caught him nicking a total of £1,356.64 from Castle Bingo in Canton, Cardiff, the South Wales Echo reports. Prosecutor Anne Mead told the court that Bolter had entered the bingo club and spoken to staff at the reception area. "Staff had placed prize money in an envelope under the shelf of the counter," she said. "As the defendant was talking to staff, he leant over the counter and took the envelope. He ran out of the building but he was captured on CCTV and the police identified him as the culprit." The burglar pleaded guilty to the theft, as well as a burglary at an Italian restaurant, driving while disqualified, obstructing a police officer and failing to surrender to bail. A far more sensible option would have been to play online bingo where plenty of legitimate jackpots are up for grabs.
