By Sarah Smithon Monday, 26 Nov 2007 A bingo caller from the north-east of England was celebrating when he was named the Bingo Caller of the Year 2007 on Sunday.
Blake Robson, of the Mecca club in South Shields, was crowned with the title after he put on one last winning show in the competition's final this weekend in London.
The thrilled 41-year-old beat off competition from five other regional contestants from around the UK to win the title, which was presented to him by ex-Emmerdale baddie Lorraine Chase.
Judges of the nationwide contest were impressed by his clarity of calling, which has now bagged him £500 and an all expenses paid holiday for two in Los Angeles.
As part of the luxury jaunt he will get to call a game in the Sun Coast Casino, a former haunt of musical legend Elvis.
Every year the National Bingo embarks on a quest to find the nation's best bingo caller, running many rounds of regional heats before narrowing down the list to just six finalists.
For those who fancy themselves as the next king of calling, the competition will open again in 2008.
