By Penny Walker on Thursday, 7 Aug 2008 Bingo callers have been labelled as "really important" to the participating crowd, an executive from a bingo company has revealed.
Gala Bingo's Nikki Marshall, the company's account executive, stressed the importance of the bingo caller's job as more than just calling out numbers to those inside the hall - instead commanding a bigger responsibility to entertain as well as conduct the game.
She added that the job was at the "hub of the community" and that the callers have a duty to have fun with the customers.
Ms Marshall continued: "I think it's a lot to do with their different personalities.
"People spend such a lot of time in there - the caller becomes really important to them."
The 2008 award for Bingo Caller of the Year went to Michael Edwards, who won the prize for the second consecutive year after the Stratford-born gaming entertainer beat seven other finalists at the competition in Birmingham.
