By Penny Walker on Tuesday, 11 Sep 2007 The National Bingo Game Association is supporting Breakthrough for Breast Cancer with a fundraising week, for the fifth year running.
Bingo for Breakthrough week, which began in 2003, has raised over £2.25 million since it began and the partnership has been awarded a 'Big Tick' from Business in the Community for standards of excellence.
During the week, which will run from 21 to 28 October, over 420 bingo clubs throughout the UK will offer members the chance to win pink cuddly toys during bingo games in return for donating their usual fee to Breakthrough.
Staff will also host fundraising activities such as X-Factor competitions and sponsored sky-dives during the week to bring staff and customers together, as well as raise funds.
Head of corporate partnerships at Breakthrough Breast Cancer Adam Colling said that was not only the significant funds expected to be raised that he was proud of:
"We have also had the opportunity to boost bingo club employee morale, communicate important messages about breast cancer and highlight bingo as a fun and fashionable game."
According to statistics provided by Breakthrough Breast Cancer up to 44,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and around 80 per cent of those women go on to survive for at least another five years.
