By Becky Turner on Monday, 12 Jun 2006 A 72-year-old bingo fan from Rhyl was delighted when she won more than £20,000 on the Afternoon Delight Game at her local club.
The woman, who has not been named, was playing at the Apollo Club on Brighton Road when she struck it lucky, winning a total of £20,503, the National Bingo Game Association reports.
Sadly she lost her husband several years ago but she has two daughters and four grandchildren. "One of my daughters told me, Dad has sent that for you, to make life more comfortable," she said.
Fortune played its part in the woman's bingo win. Because the person who usually gives her a lift to the club had stopped going, she went to the afternoon game rather than her usual evening game.
"I thought I would try the afternoon instead," she noted. "That must have been fate."
She added that she wasn't going to save for her old age because she is old already, adding that she is going to use the money to have her house done up.
