By Sarah Smithon Friday, 9 Feb 2007 The growth of the online bingo industry and popularity of such sites among older people can be attributed to the positive benefits many people believe the game offers, a new report has found.
A survey of 1,000 adults conducted by Best-online-bingo.com revealed that, aside from the enjoyment of playing bingo, there is growing awareness of the benefits associated with the game, such as improved concentration.
Citing research by Donald H Kausler and Barry C Kaulser, who stated that bingo can help to "train elderly players to improve their attentional skills", the firm found that the main reason elderly people choose to play bingo is to maintain memory skills.
Additionally, older players hope the game will help to both improve their concentration and to provide social interaction, the site claimed.
While Best-online-bingo.com found that one in four online bingo players are over the age of 50, eight per cent of the total population enjoy playing the game, Bingo Weekly reports.
