By Sarah Smithon Monday, 4 Feb 2008 A big bingo win has meant that a grandmother from Hastings can now afford to visit her son in New Zealand for the first time.
The 71-year-old scooped over £339,000 playing at The Deluxe bingo club in Pelham Place on Sunday January 27th, taking part in the National Game Platinum Jackpot prize play-off.
She told the National Bingo: "I was trembling from my toes to my fingertips when the win was announced and my brain was going round and round.
"My husband's first words to me were, 'Can I get a new car?', so we've just been out and ordered a spanking brand new Vauxhall Meriva."
The couple, who have been playing bingo for "years and years", have a son, a daughter and three grandchildren.
Family members have already received £100,000 of their winnings and now they are in the process of booking their tickets to New Zealand, where their son has been living for four years.
The National Bingo jackpot currently stands at £188,350 for one lucky bingo better to win.
