Bingo workers bare all for charity

By Sarah Smithon Thursday, 7 Dec 2006

Taking the idea from the hit-movie Calendar Girls, 23 workers at the Gala Bingo club in Glenrothes, Fife, bared all to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

So far, sales of the calendars have helped to raise £3,700 for the charity and staff at the Flemington Road bingo hall are planning to continue selling them until January, the Glenrothes Gazette reports.

Assistant manager of the club, Andrew Steele, said: "It's a fantastic amount we have got, but we will keep it going to see how much more we can add to the £3,700."

Mr Steele told the newspaper that the bingo club has sold an estimated 2,000 calendars so far.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer is currently running a £1,000 challenge campaign to raise funds for cancer research.

People who manage to raise £1,000 for the charity will have the name of someone special to them displayed on a Challengers' Wall at the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre.
