Bodybuilding turns Angie's life around

By Sarah Smithon Wednesday, 12 Jul 2006

Six years ago, Angie Weston was overweight and overcome by depression, but bodybuilding helped her turn her life around, new! reports.

A whirlwind romance had ended in disaster when Angie had a miscarriage, resulting in the break-up of her relationship, and she went into a rapid decline.

"I had a nervous breakdown and felt like I was dying from depression," she said. "I even contemplated suicide."

Her doctor put her on a strong course of Valium, Prozac and beta-blockers, but these failed to help. She began eating junk food and 5ft 5in Angie's weight rocketed to 13 stone.

Then she heard a voice from God, asking her what she wanted to do in her life. "At first I thought I was losing it, but something inside me snapped. I said to myself that all I wanted to do was to become fit and enter fitness competitions," she said.

She bought some fitness videos and magazines and began practising in front of the mirror. After bringing her weight right down to ten stone, she met former British bodybuilding champion Kimberly Anne Jones, who became her trainer.

Now she hopes to become a British champ herself and is looking to qualify at the next British championships. "Bodybuilding saved my life," she concluded.
