By Sarah Smithon Friday, 26 May 2006 US pop star Britney Spears has relegated her husband Kevin Federline to a "bachelor" flat in the basement of their home.
The strained relationship took a turn for the even worse this week when Britney, who is pregnant with their second child, returned home from a trip to New York to find Kevin lounging around drinking and smoking pot, according to the Mirror.
Britney was also said to be upset when her layabout hubby chose to spend Mother's Day with his former girlfriend Shar Jackson, with whom he has two children and this was the last straw.
A source told the newspaper: "Their relationship has become so hostile she just doesn't see how she can make it work. She has ordered him down to the basement."
The popmeistress' spokesman did not deny that a divorce may be on the cards.
Over the weekend, Britney posted a poem on her website that seemed to contain references to her relationship with Kevin.
It read: "No more chains that you gave me. My crown is back and it's way too high for you to be in my presence, especially my son."
