By Sarah Smithon Friday, 8 Feb 2008 Britney Spears' parents said that they believe her life is in danger after she checked herself out of a psychiatric unit this week.
Jamie and Lynne Spears said in a statement: "As parents of an adult child in the throws of a mental health crisis, we were extremely disappointed to learn our daughter was released from hospital."
The divorced pair said that the conservatorship order which has been granted to Jamie, putting him in charge of Britney's finances while she is rendered unfit to do so herself, was being "blatantly" disregarded.
"We ask only that the court's orders be enforced so that a tragedy may be averted."
Spears was released from psychiatric care at the UCLA Medical Centre after her doctor could reportedly find no just cause for the fallen pop star to remain in the unit.
Following her release, 26-year-old Britney drove erratically around LA, being tailed by a group of 15 paparazzi before checking into a hotel with her British boyfriend Adnan.
The You Drive Me Crazy singer's long-term live-in companion Sam Lufti will no longer be able to be at the songstress' side as her parents have had a restraining order taken out against him.
Lufti, whose real name is Osama, was accused by Lynne Spears of grinding up drugs to put in Britney's food as well as cutting all her phone lines and "controlling her life".
