By Sarah Smithon Wednesday, 22 Nov 2006 Ahead of the final of the Bingo Caller of the Year 2006 competition, 30-year-old Brett Hyrjak has emerged as one of the front runners.
William Hill has given Brett, who calls the numbers at Gala Bingo in Butlins, Bognor Regis, odds of 10/3 to win the competition between six of the country's leading bingo callers, the Chichester Observer reports.
Victorious in the southern heat, Brett recently told the Argus that reaching the final was a "real achievement".
"I started calling five years ago as a stop-gap job but the moment I got up on stage I began to feel the same buzz as I did from acting," he told the newspaper.
The final, which is to be held at the Gala Bingo at Surrey Quays on Tuesday November 26th, has been run by the National Bingo Game Association since 1994.
As well as the golden microphone trophy, the chance to take a trip to Las Vegas to call bingo in a casino is up for grabs.
