Camelot has been picked as the next holder of the UK's National Lottery licence, it has been revealed.
The firm, which has run the National Lottery since 1994, will continue to control the game for another ten year stint, starting in February 2009.
Despite being named as the panel's choice, big bosses at the lottery remained tight-lipped about the win, saying that the competition was not yet over until everything has been signed and agreed.
The National Lottery Commission (NLC) said that Camelot had been selected for the sought-after position after "rigorous scrutiny". However a rival bidder, Kamlesh Vijay, head of the Indian contender Sugal & Damani, told the BBC he was "disappointed" by the outcome.
It is believed the firm want to create a global mega lottery with a £250 million jackpot in the future.
Chief executive of Camelot Dianne Thompson said she was "thrilled" with the decision, while NLC chairman Anne Wright said it had been a "hard-fought" contest.
This is the third time Camelot has been successful in its bid to run the game.
