Change of routine proves lucky for gran

By Sarah Smithon Thursday, 31 May 2007

A grandmother from Leicestershire has hit the jackpot after altering her usual bingo routine.

The 57-year-old, known only as Janet, told the National Bingo Gaming Association website that she normally has a strict routine for her bingo games but was persuaded to change it by her husband.

Janet, who has three children and three grandchildren, has been playing bingo at her local Gala bingo hall for many years and has tasted success in the past.

She claimed an £8,000 jackpot in 1999 but managed to dwarf that sum with her latest win of £50,000.

The hospital worker would not have stood a chance of winning the jackpot however, if it was not for her husband.

"It was him who suggested we went to bingo that evening, because I usually play on a Saturday afternoon," she said.

"It was the first time in 18 months that I had played the evening National Game."

Janet says that she intends to put the money 'to good use' and has no intention of splashing it all out on something right away.
