Charities land bingo jackpot in March

By Penny Walker on Friday, 14 Jul 2006

A Cambridgeshire councillor has tapped into the public's love of bingo in order to raise money for charity.

Councillor Jan French organised the bingo and bangers night and managed to raise £530, which is to be added to other money raised throughout the year and given to local charities, the Cambridgeshire Times 24 reports.

The event was the first organised by Ms French in her first year as mayor of March, a market town 30 miles from Cambridge.

"It was really great fun," she said. "I thought it would offer something different and it certainly did that. Everyone who attended said they had a marvellous night."

The event was attended by mayors and other official dignitaries - one of whom had a surprising confession to make.

He told Ms French that he had met his wife of 40 years while playing bingo in Great Yarmouth.
