By Sarah Smithon Wednesday, 31 May 2006 England beat Hungary 3-1 in last night's friendly at Old Trafford in the build-up to the World Cup, including one cracking 18-yard drive from Liverpool forward Peter Crouch. The lanky striker proved that he could score great goals and celebrated with a robot dance that he'd first unveiled at David Beckham's World Cup party. And Becks himself showed that he's still more than capable of playmaking, as the other two goals resulted from his long crosses. Steven Gerrard was on the receiving end of one of those, sticking it in the back of the net on what was his 26th birthday. The match was also noteworthy as it marked the debut of Theo Walcott at 17 years and 75 days, he has become the youngest player to make a senior appearance in the England national side. Commenting on Crouch's performance, England boss Sven Goran Eriksson said: ""Peter is a very special footballer. He is extremely useful. More or less every time he plays for England he does a good job." Crouch could play a crucial role in the World Cup in the absence of injured star striker Wayne Rooney.
