By Simon Jones on Tuesday, 10 Oct 2006 Dan Smyth, the founder of Bingobase affiliate website Crown Bingo, took a risk when he founded his company but hopes that it will net him a huge jackpot in the long run.
He used to earn a living from playing online poker - sometimes playing 50 hours a week, The Sunday Sun reports. He then learned about online bingo when he began working at an online poker site in London.
"It occurred to me that online gaming was growing and that there were several gaps in the market," he said.
He went on to found Crown Bingo. "Launching a new company with zero income and thousands of pounds worth of costs every month, before marketing, was frightening at times and did lead to several sleepless nights."
Steadily he saw the number of users grow, drawn by the chat room that allows a vibrant community to flourish.
Crown Bingo now gets around 150 new subscribers every day and often has up to 400 gamers playing bingo at any one time.
"I hope it will make me a millionaire," Dan says of his own potential jackpot. "But it's still early days yet."
