By Becky Turner on Thursday, 30 Nov 2006 A 75-year-old former betting shop manager from Illingworth has won the latest £500 Halifax Courier bingo jackpot.
Irvine Stephenson, who retired from his job at a bookmakers in Bradford ten years ago and is a sequence dancing enthusiast, scooped the jackpot and now plans to treat his grandsons at Christmas, the Halifax Courier reports.
Mr Stephenson and his wife, Florence, who were playing the game for the first time, are optimistic that they will win again.
"I will definitely keep playing and I have every intention of winning it again. Maybe a rollover next time," he said.
Meanwhile, an 83-year-old woman from Newport, Gwent, who won £20,471 while playing bingo at the Castle Club, is planning to give some of the money to Children in Need, the National Bingo Game Association reports.
In addition to the charity, the woman said that she will also be sharing her winnings with her daughter.
