Doherty banned from easyJet following syringe find

By Sarah Smithon Friday, 2 Jun 2006

Rocker Pete Doherty has been banned from flying with easyJet after crew members found a syringe on a flight the singer was on.

The drug-addled Babyshambles frontman was travelling with his band from London to Barcelona on Thursday, where they were playing at the Primavera Sound Festival.

EasyJet crew members became suspicious when Doherty spent "an unusual amount of time" in the toilet. When they checked, they found a bloody syringe hidden in a bin and when they questioned Doherty he became "agitated and aggressive".

Police were called to Barcelona airport by the aircraft's pilot, but they found no illegal substances on him when they searched him. He was allowed to proceed but easyJet banned him – and the rest of his band – from future flights.

Last month Doherty, 27, was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs, just hours after he had been placed on probation for another drugs charge. Last year his then-girlfriend, supermodel Kate Moss, was pictured using cocaine, apparently at a studio Babyshambles were recording at.

He also once broke into former bandmate Carl Barat's flat and was jailed for two months.
