Changes in the law in the US have led to many bingo players showing interest in the European market, it has emerged.

Online gaming in the US is now prohibited as a result of recent legislation, which has led many bingo enthusiasts to turn their attention to overseas.

Industry leaders and commentators are expecting online bingo to become a market comparable to the lucrative online poker sector, with many gambling sites ready to cash in on the new players.

For example, sites such as PartyGaming, 888, Paddy Power and Ladbrokes have set up their own bingo brands.

Tarrnie Williams, chief executive of Bingo.com, said: "As the industry stands at the threshold of regulation in Europe, this is an ideal time for online bingo's major players to share ideas and strategies to help develop a new and exciting global marketplace."

In recognition of the developments, industry leaders are to meet at the first ever Online Bingo conference next month, in which they will discuss how to best take advantage of the growing market.
