By Sarah Smithon Tuesday, 6 Feb 2007 International gaming firms are jostling for the chance to develop the UK's first supercasino, which it was recently announced will be based in Manchester. The casino will bring a full suite of gambling services to the UK in a huge project set to cost hundreds of millions of pounds. Naturally, the development is likely to include all sorts of leisure activities and luxury features to go with the slots, poker tables, roulette wheels and so on. Council officials had previously announced Kerzner International as the preferred bidder but rules stipulate that the bid has to be made open to other potential developers. Now, Harrah Entertainment and Stanley Leisure are considering bids for the Manchester contract. Stanley, which was last year acquired in a deal worth £639 million, is confident in its chances. The Liverpool-based firm is currently the biggest casino operator in the UK, operating over 40 casinos nationwide as well as four in London.
