By Becky Turner on Monday, 24 Sep 2007 A jobless mother-of-two has become Britain's first bingo club millionaire.
Margaret Shearer, 46, lost her job as a biscuit factory worker three weeks ago and says she was only playing bingo because she was not at work.
The lucky lady from Ruchazie in Glasgow hit the jackpot playing with her mum at a Mecca bingo lunchtime session in the city.
She said that the news had not yet sunk in.
"I just haven't a clue what I'm going to do with the money. It's such an enormous amount that it's difficult to grasp what it really means," she added.
A spokesman for Mecca bingo said that Ms Shearer had been a member of the club for 30 years and added that she is a superstitious player who always carries a miniature Buddha figure in her handbag.
The Mecca millionaire game was introduced in September this year. It created the opportunity for one lucky player to become the nation's first bingo winner to bag one million pounds.
