By Penny Walker on Monday, 27 Oct 2008 An ex-bingo caller from Lincoln was confident about his chances of being chosen to become the city's new town crier last week.
Going into the contest to become one of Lincoln's most public figures, former numbers game man Bill Harrison told the Lincolnshire Echo that he thought his background in bingo would help him in his new pursuit.
The competition, which resembled ITV1 show X Factor as candidates had to showcase their talents in front of a judging panel, took place at Lincoln City Hall on Saturday but as yet the results have not been revealed.
Mr Harrison was one of the contestants to offer his opinions before the event.
He told the newspaper: "I have been told by no end of people I definitely have the voice for the job."
The 62-year-old is gunning to take Terry Stubbings' position as town crier after he vacated the position following 14 years of service.
Gala Bingo's account executive Nikki Marshall recently suggested that a bingo caller plays a "vital" role in fostering a feeling of community in the bingo hall. Mr Harrison was arguably hoping that this was what the judges were looking for on Saturday.
