By Becky Turner on Tuesday, 8 Aug 2006 An unemployed painter and decorator from west London had the surprise of his life when he bagged a massive bingo jackpot of more than £200,000, the National Bingo Game Association reports.
The unnamed 40-year-old was playing at the Mecca Club in Vanston Place, where he is a regular visitor, when things quickly got exciting.
"I only wanted two after 29 numbers had been called," he said. "My heart was beating so fast I thought it would burst. This is my third year of playing bingo and I go five or six times a week at the moment. I enjoy it so much."
His previous biggest win had been £300 but this time he netted a total of £201,252.
"There was a really great atmosphere in the club after we announced how much he had won," said Mecca spokesman Mahad Ahmed. "Everyone was clapping and cheering him."
The man intends to take an elderly friend away on holiday with some of the winnings and invest the rest.
