By Penny Walker on Wednesday, 20 Dec 2006 UKbingo hall operator Gala Bingo has announced its contribution to 20,000 hours of volunteering made by firms across Nottinghamshire this year.
Among a group of 30 major businesses in the county, Gala Bingo helped by providing some of the 2,000 members of staff who got involved with projects for good causes.
People facing barriers to employment were given the chance to experience working life in one of the firm's bingo halls, as well as being given training to enhance their employability.
Jackie Fuller, manager of the Nottinghamshire Cares scheme, said: "Employers across the county are recognising the value of giving employees time off to volunteer.
"The impact as a collective group of companies is enormous and has made a huge difference to the community."
Meanwhile, outside of its bingo halls, Gala brought some festive cheer to the town of Boston, Lincolnshire, at its annual town party.
Gala Bingo sponsored the special effects for the party, which showered the crowd with snow on the hour throughout the day.
