By Sarah Smithon Tuesday, 17 Jul 2007 A gambling addict is to sue William Hill after accusing the company of not stopping him from placing bets.
Graham Calvert from Sunderland said he had tried to ban himself from the bookies, but to no avail.
And now he believes William Hill should pay up for not curbing his habit by refusing to serve him and is suing the firm for £2,052,972 claiming that it breached its duty of care.
Mr Calvert, a greyhound trainer, betted savings of £500,000 after a massive losing streak, borrowing over £1 million from 'business associates' as well as a £23,000 bank loan and remortgaging his home for £100,000.
What's more he also lost his marriage after his wife decided his betting had got out of hand.
He still owes £1,518,000 to his creditors, the Metro reports.
The case is due to be heard at the High Court in spring 2008, with William Hill set to fight against his claims.
