By Sarah Smithon Tuesday, 7 Aug 2007 We may soon be seeing gambling products advertised on television and radio in the near future, thanks to a new industry code to promote more socially responsible advertising, it has been reported.
From September we may see more advertisements for gambling products on our screens, but only in accordance with a strict code linked to the Gambling Act which came into force in 2005.
The code, which follows rules produced by the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) and the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP), will mean that ads will have to include a link to gambleaware.co.uk, a site highlighting the potential dangers of gambling.
It's also helped to bring about a 9pm watershed for gambling products in order to protect children.
The new code was developed alongside the Department of Culture Media and Sport, the Gambling Commission, Responsibility In Gambling Trust and Gamcare.
