By Sarah Smithon Monday, 5 Mar 2007 George Michael is set to be the first act to perform at the newly opened Wembley Stadium in June.
The former Wham! star, who performed at the old Wembley Stadium several times, will take in the 90,000 capacity venue during his UK and European stadium tour.
Alex Horne, managing director of the stadium, described the news as "fantastic", claiming that the concert will help to put the venue "on the world map".
"I'm sure this will be a very hot ticket," he remarked.
The singer's show will be followed by a concert by Muse - who were originally set to open the venue - on June 16th.
In addition to hosting the UK's biggest sporting events, Wembley will also be home to two of American Football's most famous teams in October.
The Miami Dolphins will take on the New York Giants in the first NFL game to played outside of North America.
