By Becky Turner on Thursday, 22 Mar 2007 A 57-year-old man from Hartlepool has scooped a £100,000 jackpot while playing the National Bingo Game.
Competing against players in 500 other clubs across the country, the grandfather of seven took home the national and club prize at the town's Gala Bingo hall, reports the Hartlepool Mail.
Stating that he usually only plays bingo every now and again, the lucky winner told the newspaper that his wife is really the avid bingo player.
"I just go along odd times when she wants the company, but neither of us have ever won big amounts before," he remarked.
The couple now plans to have a holiday before deciding how to spend the rest of their winnings.
Second only to the National Lottery as the UK's biggest computer-controlled game, the National Bingo Game is played twice a day each day of the year - with the exception of Christmas day - and offers prizes of up to £200,000.
