By Sarah Smithon Tuesday, 5 Dec 2006 Gwyneth Paltrow has insisted that she did not mean to insult America when she spoke at a press conference recently.
The 34-year-old Oscar winner, who is married to Coldplay singer Chris Martin, told People Magazine that she was a "proud" American and did not say that the British were "more intelligent and civilised", as reported in the Portuguese newspaper Diario De Noticias.
"I felt so upset to be completely misconstrued and I never, ever would have said that," she told the magazine.
Ms Paltrow explained that she thought that Europe was a much older culture, highlighting the differences between the continent and the US.
A fan recently bid £30,000 in a charity auction in aid of the Prince's Trust for a yoga lesson with the American actress, Sky News reports.
Ms Paltrow said she would have to come up with a special plan for the session after the winning bid was so high, but ruled out taking part in the nude.
