By Sarah Smithon Friday, 7 Dec 2007 TV star Kiefer Sutherland has begun a jail sentence of 48 days following a conviction for drink driving.
Kiefer, who is best-known for his role of government agent Jack Bauer in hit-TV series 24, was caught driving under the influence of alcohol in September whilst on probation for another drink driving offence, dating back to 2004.
The shining light of US TV screens has now been sent to Glendale City Jail in California where he will spend a lot longer than 24 hours paying the price for his crime.
Jail spokesman, John Balian, said: "Mr. Sutherland is very polite and humble. He was very cooperative during the booking process.
"He will be issued an orange jumpsuit and will be housed alone in a cell, since he'll be a long-term inmate."
While behind bars 40-year-old Kiefer leaves behind three step-children and one biological daughter.
However a stint in prison seems to be par for the course for most stars in the current celeb climate.
Millionaire heiress Paris Hilton spent 22 days behind bars earlier this year, followed by tabloid favourite Lindsey Lohan who spent just under two hours in jail while fellow gossip-page regular Britney Spears is rarely out of court these days.
