After much media speculation over her decreasing weight, 'The Simple Life' star has decided to take action and seek help.
Her representative, however, insists that the petite star is not being treated for an eating disorder.
"Nicole Richie has decided to undergo diagnostic treatment to determine why she's not been putting on any weight," the spokesperson told People exclusively.
"She is working with a team of doctors and specialists whose focus is nutrition. It is important to Nicole that she achieves this goal in a healthy way as this is not a treatment for an eating disorder."
Richie, the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie, has denied having an eating disorder for most of the year.
The reality TV star told Vanity Fair magazine that she is not happy with how she looks and was working with a nutritionist to gain some much-needed kilos.
Nicole is one of many shrinking stars, including 'Superman' star Kate Bosworth, who have lost a significant amount of weight since finding fame.
Richie, who blames stress for her lack of appetite, has previously spent time in rehab for heroin addiction.
