By Sarah Smithon Friday, 18 Jan 2008 Pop singer Lily Allen has suffered a miscarriage, her record company has confirmed today.
The singer who had spoken out enthusiastically about her pregnancy is reported to be "distraught" at losing the child.
Lily, 22, learned she had suffered the miscarriage shortly after returning from a romantic break away in the Maldives with her boyfriend Chemical Brother Ed Simons.
Earlier in the pregnancy the Smile singer had described her enthusiasm for domesticity and creating a family.
She said: "I've looked forward to being stable my whole life. My parents are amazing, but it has been a whirlwind upbringing.
"I have got my eye on the prize, which is having kids and getting married and cooking dinner and doing homework with my children."
Lily is the daughter of comic actor Keith Allen, who is also a sometime member of the band Fat Les, and released her debut album Alright Still in 2006.
She was recently chosen to feature on the judging panel for this year's Orange Broadband prize for fiction and has also landed her own BBC Three show based around society networking.
Lily Allen and friends is due to launch sometime this year.
