By Becky Turner on Wednesday, 25 Oct 2006 Retired telephone operator Brenda Portch had good cause to thank her lucky stars this week - when her horoscope predicted 'good fortune' and she then bagged a £1.4 million Lotto win!
The 67-year-old great-grandmother has said her prize money will go towards her family but has promised herself some little treats on the side, like a new house and car, the Express & Star reports.
"It dawned straight away that I had won … I was gobsmacked," said Brenda, who has eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren - soon to be three.
"It feels great to be joining the millionaire lifestyle," Brenda told the paper, reflecting that she's only ever managed £10 wins in the past.
She gave the jackpot ticket to sister Dinkie, who stowed it safely away - in her husband's underwear drawer.
The three retired sisters, Brenda, Dinkie and Denise, will be flying first-class to Philadelphia to see their nephew on the back of the big win.
For Brenda, the best thing of all is "I can really look after the people I love".
