By Becky Turner on Friday, 19 May 2006 Most people might consider buying a mansion in the Caribbean if they won £9 million on the lottery, but frugal Mary Jones has opted for a run-down bungalow. The two-bed one-storey building, located in Bala, Wales was originally put on the market for £49,000, but lucky lottery millionaire Mrs Jones forked out £120,000 for it because her husband loved the garden. And the thrifty pair won't have to pay very much in removals, because the bungalow is located across the road from their current home. The bungalow has been empty for seven years since its previous owner died and was built by the husband of neighbour Barbara Wright. "It is south-facing and has wonderful views across a valley and the hills beyond, though the house itself is in a terrible state," she explained. "But, at first, the owners refused to sell. Mary persevered and eventually persuaded them. She paid well over the odds for it. But if anyone can afford it, she can." Mrs Jones won £9.3 million on the lottery in January 2004 and the bungalow is apparently her first major purchase.
