By Becky Turner on Wednesday, 18 Oct 2006 Pensioner Shirley Lawrey is celebrating after scooping a massive bingo jackpot of more than £20,000, the National Bingo Game Association reports.
The 70-year-old recently celebrated her golden wedding anniversary and was playing at the Mecca Club in Exeter's North Street when she won £20,606.
"It's been a great year," she said. "On top of our 50th wedding anniversary, I also received a gold badge from the National Blood Service for donating 50 pints of blood and now I've just won £20,000!"
She added that it was her lucky number seven that came up trumps for her - she called full house on 77.
Shirley has been playing bingo for 40 years and has been a member of the Mecca club since it first opened.
"When I won all my friends and everybody else clapped, so I ended up clapping along with them!" she exclaimed.
She intends to go on holiday to Malta with her jackpot loot and is also going to spoil her family.
