By Penny Walker on Wednesday, 3 Sep 2008 A Mecca Bingo employee set off on a 70-mile bike ride for charity recently, reports the Southern Daily Echo.
Pensioner Larry Walder was waved off by staff and regulars at the numbers game operator in Southampton as he embarked on his two-wheeled journey in aid of children's charity Whizz-Kidz.
Mr Walder is 70 years old and is a membership officer with Mecca Bingo. He decided to take part in the fundraiser because the benefiting organisation "really appealed" to him.
Various employees from the bingo group across the UK have involved themselves in activities to bring in funds for the charity, with staff from halls in Doncaster and Scotland among those showing their support.
"It is lovely to get this sort of support. I don't know how I got myself into this, I just opened my mouth and here I am," Mr Walder explained to the publication.
