Mecca Bingo fire causes mid-game evacuation

By Penny Walker on Tuesday, 19 Dec 2006

A fire at a Mecca Bingo, and Social Club in Swansea forced land bingo, players to be evacuated, it was reported today.

Situated on Camarthen Road, an electrical fire caused alarms to sound which meant that the game had to be abandoned.

Fire engines arrived at the scene and made sure that no structural damage was caused to buildings, according to the Evening Post.

The fire was put out, with a turntable ladder and thermal camera used to check damage, following which players were let back in to the building.

Richard Byrke-Lloyd, manager of the Mecca Bingo, said: "We had a small electrical fire on the sign outside the front door.

"We had about 35 customers inside and we automatically evacuated the building."

The news follows reports that online bingo players visiting Mecca Bingo, a BingoBase partner site, could win £5,000 between now and Christmas.
